The “Zentrum für gewerblichen Rechtsschutz” (Center for Intellectual Property) at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is once again inviting experts to this year’s “Düsseldorfer Patentrechtstage” (Dusseldorf Patent Law Days).
Under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Jan Busche and Prof. Dr. Peter Meier-Beck, former Presiding Judge of the German Federal Court of Justice (VorsRiBGH), judges from various courts and chambers, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Justice and from academia as well as lawyers will provide information on current topics and developments in patent law on March 13 and 14.
While the first day of the event will focus on the European Unified Patent Court (UPC) and the interpretation of claims in the European patent system, the second day will deal with the case law of lower courts, the Court of Appeal of the UPC and the Federal Supreme Court.
In this context, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner and patent attorney Christian W. Appelt will speak from 9.45 a.m. on the current decision-making practice of the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office.

Dr. Herrmann will discuss in detail the reasons for protecting start-up innovations as part of a round table. Using examples, he will also discuss which patent application strategies are suitable for whom and how start-ups can best protect themselves against third-party patents when entering the market.

In-house counsels, patent and trade mark managers as well as IP experts are cordially invited to Munich from June 20 to 28, 2024 to learn and exchange information on important aspects of obtaining and protecting intellectual property in Europe.
This year’s 9th session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will focus on artificial intelligence (AI), which is accelerating technological progress on the one hand and changing entire industries and lifestyles in ways that are not yet foreseeable on the other.
Moderated by Yecid Rios, Zapata&Ríos Abogados Asociados from Colombia, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner and attorney at law Dr. Martin Schaefer will discuss the topic of regulation together with Natasha Allen (Foley & Lardner LLP, USA), the Dean of the National University of Singapore, Simon Chesterman, Seagull Song (King & Wood Mallesons, China) and Paolo Lanteri (WIPO). Dr. Schaefer’s short presentation will focus on the draft EU AI Act.
The event is aimed at policy makers, intellectual property professionals with general knowledge of artificial intelligence and technical experts with limited knowledge of intellectual property. The panel will start at 10:05 a.m. on March 14 and conclude at 11:20 a.m. after a Q&A session.

On April 18 and 19, 2024, the Polish, German and French groups of AIPPI are once again organizing a seminar on intellectual property issues.
