From 3rd to 6th October 2010, the 42nd World Intellectual Property Congress of the AIPPI (Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle) will take place in Paris. As part of this event, Workshop VI, entitled “Licensing – Do’s and Don’ts in US and Europe”, will be held on 05.10.2010. It will be moderated by James Pooley (WIPO, Switzerland); the speakers will be Victor Siber (Baker & Hosteller, USA), Kenneth R. Adamo (Jones Day, USA) and BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT Partner, Dr. Klaus Dieter Langfinger. The aims of the workshop are to provide the participants with as many practical tips as possible, and to avoid the worst pitfalls for both licensors and licensees in Europe and the USA, according to the current programme.

Frankfurt Trademark Seminar – Frankfurt am Main, 1st December 2010 The seminars are chiefly aimed at trademark owners who have always administered their trademark rights themselves. Dr. Anke Nordemann-Schiffel, Dr. Martin Wirtz, Dr. Volker Schmitz-Fohrmann, Dr. Carl-Richard Haarmann and Dr. Ludwig Kouker will talk on different aspects of trademark law. Themes range from dos and don’ts in humorous advertising to warnings procedures following trademark infringement and protection of product design as provided for in the German MarkenG and UWG Acts. All seminars begin at 2pm and end at approx. 5pm.

On 16 September 2010, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Dr Anke Nordemann-Schiffel will present a full-day seminar on international copyright law in Düsseldorf. The seminar forms the second advanced law module “Copyright and Media Law” of the DeutscheAnwaltAkademie. On 9th September, as part of Berlin’s Music Week, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, “all2gethernow” and medianet berlin-brandenburg are organising a joint workshop entitled “a2n – Music, Marques, Merch and More”. Underpinning the workshop is an acknowledgement that artists are no longer marketed solely through their music; they have long since become branded items. If an artist or label is to be positioned ideally in the market, a plethora of legal principles will have to be observed, the label may need brand protection and merchandising contracts will have to be drawn up. No less than three BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partners have been instrumental in the organisation of the event: Dr. Martin Wirtz and Dr. Carl-Richard Haarmann will be treating the themes of brands and merchandising in the music business while Dr. Martin Schaefer will chair the workshop. The all2gethernow (a2n) event is conceived as a platform and conference for a modern, forward-thinking music business and culture. It will be hosted from 6th to 11th September and take the form of a conference held as part of the Berlin Music Week.

On 3rd September 2010 LES China, LES Hong Kong and LES Chinese-Taipei will convene in Shanghai for their second meeting (theme: “LES Cross Strait Conference: Technology Transfer and Commercialization”. LESI President Pat O’Reilley and LESI Past President Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar will speak as part of the “Global IPR Strategy” module. Prof. Goddar’s paper will bear the title “Price Differentiation in Pharma and the Conundrum of Exhaustion Principles”.
