Alexander Thamer advises clients in all aspects of trademark, competition and copyright law. His activities include the registration and defence of intellectual property rights in official proceedings as well as out-of-court and in-court representation in infringement proceedings.

A special focus of his consulting practice is in the area of copyright law. Here, he supports national and international clients in enforcing and defending against infringement claims and in connection with the exploitation of copyrighted works by way of individual and collective rights management and the negotiation and drafting of copyright agreements. In addition, he advises e-commerce and IT service providers, in particular on contractual, consumer protection law issues with a focus on software copyright law and IT contracts.

Alexander Thamer studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin. During his subsequent work as a research assistant at the Chair of Civil Law, Intellectual Property and Copyright Law, one of his main research areas was the enforcement of rights on the Internet, in particular the provider liability.

Since joining BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT in 2019, Alexander Thamer handles all aspects of intellectual property and unfair competition law.

Alexander Rabe studied General Biology with a focus on Immunology and Epigenetics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. During his studies he spent a research stay in Oslo, Norway, where he investigated the influence of immune modulators on leukemic cells. After his studies he worked for a biotech company in Lausanne (Switzerland) where he gained insight into the development of screening assays.

In collaboration with this company and the Albert-Ludwig-University of Freiburg, Alexander Rabe is doing his doctorate in the field of neuroimmunology, the focus of his thesis is the description of a new microglia subpopulation.

Alexander Rabe has been working for BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT since April 2020.

Oleg Lebedev studied chemistry with a major in organic synthesis at the University of Tartu, Estonia. For his doctorate he conducted research on new synthesis methods for nitrogenous heterocycles. He also conducted research on asymmetric hydrogenation at Uppsala University. In addition, he worked for more than 5 years as a project manager and business development manager in the chemical industry.

Andreas Dustmann studied law at the University of Heidelberg, Complutense University of Madrid, and University of Cologne. He obtained the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the University of Edinburgh in 1995. In his doctorate work, Andreas Dustmann was concerned with the liability of internet service providers for online copyright infringement. From 1998 to 1999, he was a research fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg. In 2001, Andreas Dustmann joined BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT and became a partner in 2007.

Andreas Dustmann acts on behalf of his clients including domestic and foreign undertakings in a wide range of intellectual property work. He is well known, among other things, for the legal representation of some US film studios in the fight against internet piracy. He has been a legal advisor for the construction of several video-on-demand portals and eCommerce platforms, and provides ongoing counsel to media companies, agencies, and dealers on legal issues of the internet. Another focus of his work is representation in court proceedings. For years he has represented clients in complex legal disputes, especially in the area of unfair competition, copyright, trademark, and design law. He is also increasingly active in patent litigation. As a Patent Attorney Thomas L. Bittner focuses on technical intellectual property rights, especially patents and utility models, both with respect to filing and prosecution, as well as litigation. Also, he advises and represents his clients in opposition proceedings and revocation proceedings before the German authorities and courts, and before the European Patent Office. Thomas L. Bittner advises companies on the establishment and strategic development of intellectual property rights portfolios, including licensing. His special technical interests are, among others, electrical and mechanical engineering, semiconductor devices, medical devices, and software patents.

Thomas L. Bittner studied physics at the Humboldt-Universität of Berlin. After his PhD he worked as a scholarship holder of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation at the Argonne National Laboratory in the US. He started his career in the field of intellectual property at the patent department of IBM Germany in 1995.

Thomas L. Bittner regularly teaches intellectual property law both in Germany and abroad. He was a visiting lecturer at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute of the University of Potsdam for many years. For the German Attorney Academy he is teaching in a course about the protection of software.

In addition, he held a training course on European patent law for several weeks in China. Since 1999, he is a partner of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT.

At the China Electric Power Research Institute in Beijing, he worked on the grid connection of wind turbines. Within the framework of his doctorate at the Free University of Berlin and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he conducted research in quantum information science and quantum computing with a scholarship of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. He moreover worked on topics in quantum chemistry at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society.

Martin Wirtz works in all fields of intellectual property matters, with a particular emphasis on trade mark, competition, and copyright law, including litigation. A further focus of his work is patent infringement proceedings. His clients include large and medium-sized firms as well as international companies and associations from a wide variety of different areas. His further field of activity includes contract drafting in the area of intellectual property, especially licensing. Martin Wirtz has been working exclusively in the field of intellectual property law since 1995 and has a considerable amount of scientific experience.

Martin Wirtz studied law and ancient and modern history at the universities of Passau, Freiburg and Cologne. After passing the first state examination, he did research on the law of the collecting society in Europe as part of a diploma course under the supervision of Professor Bill Cornish at the University of Cambridge. During his legal clerkship he worked for an international law firm in Paris. He completed his doctorate after passing the second state examination. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Cologne on the German and European control of collecting societies.Martin Wirtz regularly publishes articles dealing with trade mark and copyright law as well as competition law. Ute Kilger is assisting pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as well as academic institutes in all kinds of patent related issues concerning the obtaining and enforcement of property rights, due diligence, mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, and licensing agreements. Her counseling is driven by the understanding that a patent strategy has to add value to the company. She manages large patent portfolios in view of the business strategies as well as the cost-benefit analysis. She is involved in patent infringement processes where she is representing her clients in nullity suits up to the German Federal Supreme Court of Justice.

Ute Kilger studied chemistry at the University of Merseburg and did her PhD at the Free University of Berlin in the Department of Biochemistry focusing on protein chemistry, receptor structures, and signal transduction. In her doctoral research, she was investigating the structure of proteins by FTIR-spectroscopy. For more than ten years, she was active in the patent departments of large pharmaceutical companies. She did her patent attorney training in the patent section of Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, and subsequently worked as a patent expert for Roche Diagnostics GmbH. Ute Kilger gained expertise in US patent law when she spent several months abroad in an American patent law firm. In 2002, she joined the patent department of Schering AG, where she became the head of the department in 2004, being responsible for the global patenting in the area of molecular imaging. She is licensed as a German and European patent attorney.

Ute Kilger is a lecturer for the MBA BioMed course “Intellectual Property” at the University of Potsdam, and for the SPARK educational program of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Moreover, she is giving courses in the Charité program.

Best Lawyers 2018 is counting her as one of the most important patent attorneys in the field of biotechnology in Germany. Legal 500 Germany 2015 highlights her accomplishments related to license agreements.

Since August 2009, she has been working as a partner of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT.

Ute Kilger is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP), and the Licensing Executive Society (LES).
