    As a Patent Attorney Thomas L. Bittner focuses on technical intellectual property rights, especially patents and utility models, both with respect to filing and prosecution, as well as litigation. Also, he advises and represents his clients in opposition proceedings and revocation proceedings before the German authorities and courts, and before the European Patent Office. Thomas L. Bittner advises companies on the establishment and strategic development of intellectual property rights portfolios, including licensing. His special technical interests are, among others, electrical and mechanical engineering, semiconductor devices, medical devices, and software patents.

    Thomas L. Bittner studied physics at the Humboldt-Universität of Berlin. After his PhD he worked as a scholarship holder of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation at the Argonne National Laboratory in the US. He started his career in the field of intellectual property at the patent department of IBM Germany in 1995.

    Thomas L. Bittner regularly teaches intellectual property law both in Germany and abroad. He was a visiting lecturer at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute of the University of Potsdam for many years. For the German Attorney Academy he is teaching in a course about the protection of software.

    In addition, he held a training course on European patent law for several weeks in China. Since 1999, he is a partner of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT.
