Michael Rüberg focuses on patent infringement proceedings. He is representing his clients in all German patent infringement courts and, in cooperation with patent attorneys from all technical fields, in parallel invalidity proceedings at the Federal Patent Court and the European Patent Office. Michael Rüberg is frequently involved in the coordination of cross-border patent infringement disputes, both contentious and non-contentious. Another focus of his work is on the strategic counselling against product piracy. In addition, he provides legal advice on licensing issues, technology transfer, and employee inventions, as well as on copyright and unfair competition.

Michael Rüberg studied law at the University of Bochum and the University of Munster. After graduation, he earned his doctorate in law at the Institute of Media Law, University of Cologne, on a subject related to digital copyright under German and UK Law. He holds a Master of Law degree from renowned King’s College, London, specialized on intellectual and industrial property rights.Before becoming a partner with BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, Michael Rüberg was active as an in-house counsel and group leader in the patent and trade mark’s department of BMW AG in Munich. Previously, he worked as an attorney at law in the patent litigation group of a leading international law firm in Dusseldorf. He therefore combines distinct experience as an attorney at law, patent litigator, and in-house counsel, to provide clients with an integrated and business-oriented approach to their legal needs.Michael Rüberg frequently lectures on topics related to patent litigation both in Germany and abroad. In 2016, he has been appointed visiting professor at the Xiangtan University, PR China. Also in 2016, he has been named a global fellow of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, Washington D.C., US.Legal500 Deutschland 2015/2016 has placed particular emphasis on his work in the field of patent litigation and mentions his “utmost professionalism” and “business-minded approach.” In 2016, he has been included in the IAM listing of the 1000 leading patent practitioners worldwide.He is a member of the Munich and Dusseldorf Bar Association, the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP), the Licensing Executives Society (LES), and the International Association of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). Nils T.F. Schmid specializes in traditional mechanical engineering, his particular interest being in the areas of motor vehicles, tool engineering, process engineering, textile technologies, and medical technology. For his clients, especially medium-sized companies in Germany/Europe and Asian and American big corporations, he develops both German and global patent strategies and sees to their implementation with regard to the building up and management of patent and design patent portfolios.

Other key areas of his work include infringement and nullity disputes regarding patents, utility models, and designs, and the establishment and counseling of in house IP departments, including advising on employee inventor law.Nils T. F. Schmid studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and at the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) with an emphasis on materials science and technical mechanics. He qualified as an engineer in 1997. At the same time, he acquired a Diplôme d’Études Approfondies (DEA) at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) in Paris in the area of development and manufacturing of motor vehicle bodies. In 1997, Nils T. F. Schmid started his studies to become patent attorney. Since 2001, Nils T. F. Schmid is working for BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT as a German patent attorney and European patent and trade mark attorney. Further, he is the location representative at the Paris office of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT.Nils T. F. Schmid lectures at the Université de Strasbourg (CEIPI seminars), preparing candidates for the admission examination to qualify as a European patent attorney (EQE) (European Qualifying Examination). In addition, he regularly holds further education seminars for the European Patent Academy of the EPO to prepare examiners for the EQE.He is a member of UNION-IP (European Practitioners in Intellectual Property) and served as Vice-President of the UNION-IP Board from 2007 to 2013.  Nils T. F. Schmid led UNION-IP as President from 2013 to 2015, and was Past-President from 2015 to 2017. Nils T.F. Schmid was appointed honorary president by UNION-IP delegates in October 2017. He is also President of the Statutes Commission.Nils T. F. Schmid is a member of the Senate and the Innovations Committee of the BWA (Bundesverband für Wirtschaftsförderung und Außenwirtschaft, Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade), which advises the German Government on questions of research, innovation and public investment.

Michael Hartig works in various fields of intellectual property, but mainly in patent prosecution. This includes preparing patent applications, conducting all filing and examination proceedings at the patent offices for German and foreign clients, and the creating and managing of corresponding patent portfolios. His technical field of practice includes electronics, semiconductor physics, laser technology, medical technology, software, and universal physical applications.

Michael Hartig studied physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich. After finishing his diploma he investigated measurements of ultrafast electron scattering processes in semiconductor quantum wells using pulsed laser systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he earned his PhD.

He started his education as a patent attorney in 1998. Since 2003, he has been a registered German and European patent attorney and a partner at BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT.

Michael Hartig is an instructor of the German Chamber of Patent Attorneys where he teaches patent attorney candidates.

He is a member of the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP), the International Association of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), and the German Physical Society (DPG). In June 2020 he was elected to the Council of the “Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi)”, the professional association of all European patent attorneys.
