Together with the specialist magazine “Kommunikation & Recht”, the Bayreuth Working Group for Information Technology @kit will hold the @kit Congress and the 5th Forum “Communication & Law” in Berlin on 14 and 15 April 2016. Among the 24 speakers attending the two-day event will be Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, who will give the keynote speech. Seminar “Brand strategies in the Games industry” at the Erich Pommer Institute

The Erich Pommer Institute (epi) will hold a seminar on 7 April 2016 entitled “Brand strategies in the Games industry – from clarifying rights to video game filming”. BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partners and solicitors Olaf Wolters and Dr. Thomas W. Boddien will lead the seminar. The background to this seminar topic are new cinema films which launch this year and which are based on games material (e.g. Warcraft, Angry Birds and Assassins Creed). On 17 March 2016, the Forum Institut für Management GmbH will hold a seminar on 3D printing: Risks for Patents, Trademarks & Designs”. Two BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partners and lawyers Prof Jan B. Nordemann and Dr Michael Rüberg will explain the current state of developments and the impact of 3D Printing on Copyright, Trademark Law and Patent Law. Participants will be shown how they can protect their intellectual property, instructed as to the current legal situation and shown what products are most at risk. They will also be given advice as to what to do if printing data in respect of their products are found online. ALAI Conference “Perspective on Enforcement of Right in the Internet” with speech by Dr M. Schaefer.

On 14 March 2016, ALAI Deutschland (Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale) will hold a conference in Frankfurt am Main entitled “Perspective on Enforcement of Right in the Internet”, which is comprised of the parts “Liability of Access Providers” and “Follow the Money”. The conference will discuss the question whether and under what circumstances access providers and companies advertising on piracy sites can be sued. In the part “Liability of Access Providers”, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Dr. Martin Schaefer will speak on “The Legal Situation in Germany after goldesel.to”; Dr Romain Heidiger, University of Göttingen, will then present “The Legal Situation in Austria”. “Copyright Contract Law: Remuneration vs. Participation” – Producer brunch to mark the 66th Berlinale.

To mark the 66th Berlinale, media.connect brandenburg, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT and the Permanent Representative of Brandenburg will hold the fifth Producer Brunch on 15 February 2016. This year, the hot topic will be “Copyright Contract Law: Remuneration vs. Participation” at which BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT Partner Prof Jan B. Nordemann will give the keynote speech. Copyright Contract Law is based on the idea of participation in any possible success. For freelance artists, appropriate and risk-free remuneration after the provision of their services is, however, often more important than a participation claim. Experts on this year’s panel will discuss whether and how the idea of remuneration can be implemented in Germany law without impinging on fundamental principles of existing copyright contract law.
