This year again, the trade mark seminar will look at current issues, such as “copyright protection for brands after the Federal Supreme Court “Birthday Train” decision on European design law.  – What companies must pay attention to. The Annual trade mark seminar takes place in five locations throughout Germany.  The seminar will begin at 2p.m. and end at 5p.m. Participants are subsequently invited to snacks. Participation is free of charge.

“Legal Infringements on the Internet: Provider Liability” – Further training with Prof J. B. Nordemann.

On 14 October 2017, Humboldt University Berlin will hold a further training session on “Legal Infringement on the Internet: Provider Liability” to be given by Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann. He will explain both the general rules of liability under German and European law as well as individual liability scenarios for internet providers, e.g. host providers (YouTube, ebay, Sharehoster), link providers, search engines, domain providers, access providers, WiFi providers and payment providers.
Nordemann is a Specialist Lawyer for Copyright and Media Law as well as for Industrial Property Rights and has made comprehensive contributions to the law of liability for providers in both German and international publications and has far-reaching practical experience in this field. The event is a further training session within the scope of § 15 Specialist Lawyer Ordinance. It will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Unter den Linden 9, Room 213, 10099 Berlin. 

Mannheim Patent Days 2017 with dinner speech by Prof Dr H. Goddar.

At Mannheim Patent Days 2017, on 12 October, Professor Dr. Heinz Goddar will give a dinner speech on “Inventor Quality, Inventor Honour and Inventor Compensation in the Era of the Internet of Things”. Further topics, which the event will provide updates on, range from “Implementation of the Community Patent and UPC” to “New German Patent Case Law” and “Industry Patent Department 2025 and Industry 4.0”. The Mannheim Patent Days take place from 12 to 13 October.

Prof J. B. Nordemann hosts GRUR Annual Congress 2017 in Hamburg.

From 27 to 30 September 2017, the Annual Congress of the German Association of Industrial Property Rights and Copyright (GRUR) will take place in Hamburg. On Thursday (28.09), the expert committee Cartel Law / Working Group Procedure will come together and look at the question:  “Who determines what FRAND is?” This looks at aspects of mandatory licences from a cartel, contract and procedural law perspective. Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann will host the discussion as specialist at the interface of Intellectual Property and Cartel Law.

31 MARQUES conference in Prague with speech by Dr B. Bahlmann.

The 31st Conference of the Association of European Trademark Owners (MARQUES) will take place from 19 to 22 September 2017, this year in Prague and under the motto “Brands and Culture”. Attending the event will be BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT lawyer Dr. Björn Bahlmann, who will give a speech within the framework of the Workshops No. 2 „Injunctions: their availability and the requirements to obtain them“ on Thursday, 21.09.2017. The speech will look at questions with regard to injunctions from a German perspective. Björn Bahlmann is Specialist Lawyer for Industrial Property Protection and Member of the Dispute Resolution Teams at MARQUES.

From 18 to 21 September 2017, the Interregional Workshop on Copyright Enforcement will take place in Seoul. The event is organised by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Law and copyright specialist Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann will speak here on 19 and 20 September, giving a total of three lectures on the following topics:

  • “Civil Remedies in the Online Environment – International Perspective”
