On 30 November and 1 December 2017, a licensing seminar will be taking place in Munich organised by the Forum Institute for Management. Patent lawyer Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar and attorney Dr. Bertram Huber (IP*SEVA – Intellectual Property for Sustainable Energy Ventures, Backnang/Stuttgart), will both be leading this English-language seminar. The board of the Institute of Professional Representatives selected Dr. Daniel Herrmann before the European Patent Office (epi) to join the editorial committee as a full member during their general meeting on 18 November 2017 in Warsaw. The editorial committee is responsible for the content of the “epi Information” journal, amongst other aspects, such as providing information on the latest decisions of the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office (EPO), as well as holding conferences on European patent law and legal changes in the European Patent Convention (EPC). On 24 and 25 November 2017, the EPI Media Institute will be holding a two-part seminar entitled “Media Law Update 2017”. The two sections of the seminar will look into current developments and the latest case law concerning copyright and media law. Aspects covered will include: media employment law, publishing law, broadcasting law, EU media regulation, laws governing collecting societies, and provider liability.

Prof. Dr. Jan B. Nordemann will be holding a talk on 24 November 2017 on the topic of “GS Media, Filmspeler and ThePirateBay: a European concept for public dissemination?”. On the same day, Dr. Anke Nordemann-Schiffel will be providing an “Overview of Publishing Law”.
Each seminar can be booked individually and counts as further training for lawyers and specialist attorneys in the fields of copyright and media law. On 23 November 2017, Professor Dr. Heinz Goddar will be holding a presentation on the topic of “Model Agreements for Industry-University Cooperation” at Seoul National University (SNU) in Seoul, Korea. The event is being organised in conjunction with the Licensing Executives Society (LES Korea). As head of a working group for the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWI), Prof. Goddar played an instrumental role a few years ago in developing “Model Agreements”.

Dr. Ute Kilger will be speaking on 21/11/2017 together with Dr. Klaus-Peter Döpfer (Director of Directorate 1412, Biotechnology, European Patent Office) as part of the SPARK Programme in Berlin on the extent of data required to ensure meaningful patent protection in life sciences. The need to validate inventions via data will be discussed in clear terms by means of case studies.
