On 31 October 2017, a business workshop on the topic of “Licensing” organised by the Licensing Executives Society (LES Spain) will take place in Madrid. It will involve presentations from Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar and Prof. Dr. Christian Czychowski covering “Licensing subjects” and “Sample agreements for R & D cooperation” respectively. Prof. Goddar and Prof. Czychowski led the German Federal Ministry of Economics’s working group, which drafted the sample agreements. These can be viewed on the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy’s (BMWI) website and downloaded free of charge.

The AnwaltAkademie is holding the “Karlsruhe Dialogue: Technology & Law” on 30 November 2017, which this year features the theme “3D-printing and intellectual property”.

On 27 October 2017, the licence course (module range “Licence Projects, Module VII: “Technology Transfer and Licensing in Europe, China/Japan and USA” will take place in Stuttgart. The module range is organised by LES Germany. Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar will host the course. He will also co-hose a “Licence Game” in the same course. On 23 November 2017, Professor Dr. Heinz Goddar will be holding a presentation on the topic of “Model Agreements for Industry-University Cooperation” at Seoul National University (SNU) in Seoul, Korea. The event is being organised in conjunction with the Licensing Executives Society (LES Korea). As head of a working group for the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWI), Prof. Goddar played an instrumental role a few years ago in developing “Model Agreements”.

UNION IP appoints patent attorney Nils T.F. Schmid as Honorary President

During the Executive Commission Meeting at the Congress in Catania (Sicily) in October 2017, patent attorney Nils T.F. Schmid was appointed Honorary President by delegates of UNION IP.

Together with patent attorney Philippe Overath, he was also elected to lead the Statute Commission as Vice President.

UNION IP of European Practitioners in Intellectual Properties is an independent non-profit organisation of experts focused on intellectual property. It was founded in 1961 under the name “UNION of European Patent Attorneys”. It is active throughout Europe and offers IP experts a professional forum.

This year again, the trade mark seminar will look at current issues, such as “copyright protection for brands after the Federal Supreme Court “Birthday Train” decision on European design law.  – What companies must pay attention to. “Legal Infringements on the Internet: Provider Liability” – Further training with Prof J. B. Nordemann.

On 14 October 2017, Humboldt University Berlin will hold a further training session on “Legal Infringement on the Internet: Provider Liability” to be given by Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann. He will explain both the general rules of liability under German and European law as well as individual liability scenarios for internet providers, e.g. host providers (YouTube, ebay, Sharehoster), link providers, search engines, domain providers, access providers, WiFi providers and payment providers.
Nordemann is a Specialist Lawyer for Copyright and Media Law as well as for Industrial Property Rights and has made comprehensive contributions to the law of liability for providers in both German and international publications and has far-reaching practical experience in this field. The event is a further training session within the scope of § 15 Specialist Lawyer Ordinance. It will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Unter den Linden 9, Room 213, 10099 Berlin.

At Mannheim Patent Days 2017, on 12 October, Professor Dr. Heinz Goddar will give a dinner speech on “Inventor Quality, Inventor Honour and Inventor Compensation in the Era of the Internet of Things”. Further topics, which the event will provide updates on, range from “Implementation of the Community Patent and UPC” to “New German Patent Case Law” and “Industry Patent Department 2025 and Industry 4.0”. The Mannheim Patent Days take place from 12 to 13 October.
