Munich, 19 January 2026 – IP law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT is starting 2026 by expanding its partnership with four patent attorney experts. With immediate effect, Dr. Hanno Flentje and Dr. Michael Lohse at the Munich site, Jan Göring in Bremen and Dr. Adrian Steffens in Berlin will take on joint responsibility for the firm’s technical fields.

Dr. Hanno Flentje, based in Munich, specializes in physics, semiconductor technology and optics. He also works extensively in the fields of quantum technology, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, manufacturing and information technology, as well as consumer goods. He is responsible for drafting patent applications and prosecuting them before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) and the European Patent Office (EPO). In addition, he regularly represents clients in opposition, nullity and patent litigation proceedings.

From Bremen, Diplom‑Ingenieur Jan Göring advises international corporations, medium‑sized enterprises and start‑ups on the full spectrum of IP management — from tailored patent strategies to the development and stewardship of comprehensive IP portfolios. Drawing on several years of experience as in‑house patent counsel, he brings strong practical industry insight and covers the entire field of mechatronics with a particular focus on mechanical engineering. He also dedicates his work to advancing concepts for modern decarbonized mobility and developing technical solutions for disaster response and civil protection.

Diplom‑Physiker Dr. Michael Lohse focuses primarily on drafting patent applications and prosecuting them before the DPMA and the EPO. He also represents clients in patent infringement and validity proceedings, including before the Unified Patent Court. His technical expertise spans physics, optics, medical technology, semiconductor and electrical engineering, IT and quantum technology. In addition, he is involved in projects within the automotive sector. Alongside globally operating corporations, he advises small and medium‑sized enterprises as well as university spin‑offs.

New partner Dr. Adrian Steffens supports companies in filing German and international patents and utility models and represents them in opposition, nullity and patent litigation proceedings. His technical expertise includes software and IT, quantum technology, physics, signal processing and medical technology. He has been part of the BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT team in Berlin since 2018 and – like all newly appointed partners – is authorized to represent clients before the Unified Patent Court.

BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT wins Oliver Tarvenkorn as a new patent attorney

Dusseldorf, 14.12.2023 – At the beginning of the year, the mixed law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT is strengthening its team with a new patent attorney. Oliver Tarvenkorn will work in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and physics at the Dusseldorf and Bielefeld offices.

Patent attorney Oliver Tarvenkorn deals with obtaining, maintaining, defending and challenging patents and utility models in all areas of mechanical engineering, physics and electrical engineering as well as advising on employee invention law issues. A particular focus of his work is on plastics processing technology. In addition, he has many years of experience with patents for building materials, sanitary technology, sporting goods and agricultural and work machinery.
Oliver Tarvenkorn has been working in the field of intellectual property since 1997. As a patent attorney and European Patent Attorney, he has been advising owner-managed companies in the Münsterland, East Westphalia, Sauerland and Emsland regions for 20 years.

Oliver Tarvenkorn studied mechanical engineering at the University of Paderborn, specializing in plastics processing technology. In view of the importance of patents in the European context and the imminent establishment of a unified patent court system, he completed postgraduate studies at the Université de Strasbourg in 2015 and 2016 to obtain the European Patent Litigation Certificate.
From January 2024, Oliver Tarvenkorn will strengthen the firm’s teams in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and physics at the Dusseldorf and Bielefeld offices

The Patent attorneys Dr. Mario Araujo and Dr. Jin Jeon will in future be jointly responsible for the electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, software/IT and internet divisions.

Dr. Mario Araujo deals with the drafting and prosecution of IP rights before the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office. His technical focus is on physics, optics, semiconductor technology, electrical engineering, IT and medical technology.In addition, Dr. Mario Araujo specializes in cross-border patent litigation, where he advises his clients in nullity and patent infringement proceedings and represents them before German, Spanish and European courts and authorities.

Dr. Mario Araujo studied physics at the Universitat de Barcelona and the Technical University of Munich. He received a Master of Science in theoretical physics from Imperial College London. For his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich, he investigated the electrical properties of strongly coupled matter using numerical calculations based on gravitational theories.At BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, Dr. Araujo has been working since 2015. He is admitted as a German Patent Attorney, Spanish Patent Attorney (Agente de la Propiedad Industrial) and European Patent Attorney.

Dr. Jin Jeon assists clients in the drafting and examination of intellectual property applications as well as in their enforcement in Germany and Europe. His expertise covers all fields of physics, in particular semiconductor physics, optics, microfluidics, satellite communications, mechanics and plasma physics. In addition, he specializes in electrical engineering, information and communication technology, materials science, manufacturing technology, and mechanical engineering. With several years of experience in interdisciplinary research with scientists from medicine, microbiology, and chemistry, Dr. Jin Jeon is also an expert in multidisciplinary technologies.

Dr. Jin Jeon studied technical physics at the Technical University of Munich with a focus on energy sciences and plasma physics. His PhD in the field of plasma medicine was done at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching in collaboration with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. Since 2015, Dr. Jin Jeon has been working as a patent attorney at BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT. He is also admitted as a European Patent Attorney and speaks German and Korean as native languages.

Frankfurt, 10.01.2023 – The Frankfurt office of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT can now be reached at a new address. The reason for the move from Freiherr-vom-Stein-Strasse 7 to the neighboring Feldbergstrasse 35 in Frankfurt’s West End is the pleasing growth of the Frankfurt office by several lawyers from various technology fields, which pushed the previous premises to their limits.

“The move to the new office space creates the prerequisite for further growth and, in perspective, gives us the opportunity to consistently continue the expansion of the IP practice at the Frankfurt location. Also and especially with regard to the addition of legal know-how to the team”, explains Dr. Karl-Heinz Metten, patent attorney and long-standing partner at BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT in Frankfurt.

BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT further expands presence in Paris.

Paris, 18.10.2022 –In the course of the upcoming implementation of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), the law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT is expanding its presence in the French capital. In addition, two partners of the firm, Dr. Michael Hartig and Dr. Michael Rüberg, have been heading the Paris office since the beginning of October.

The Paris office has been an integral part of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT’s structure for many years. In particular, clients based in France have been advised there efficiently and closely with a view to the German market. The strengthening of the firm’s legal team will now take place with a view to the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and its Paris-based central chamber, which is expected to commence its work in spring 2023. With Paris, Munich and Dusseldorf, BOEHMERT & BOHMERT is thus represented at all relevant locations of the new court.

Attorney at law Dr. Michael Rüberg, who also works in the law firm’s offices in Munich and Dusseldorf, emphasizes that beyond the UPC, no legal advice for the French market is envisaged in Paris in the future. “For this purpose, we have been working for decades on a basis of trust with various renowned law firms in France and will continue to do so,” says Rüberg. Bremen, 18.01.2022 – At the beginning of the year, the mixed law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT is appointing Dr. Eckhard Ratjen as a new lawyer to the partnership of the firm. Dr. Ratjen will strengthen the law firm in the areas of trade mark, design, copyright and competition law.

Dr. Eckhard Ratjen advises his clients on all strategic issues of trademark, design, copyright and competition law. The management of international IP portfolios is a central focus of his advisory practice. Another focus of his work is the prosecution and defence against infringements of intellectual property rights and competition law. Dr Eckhard Ratjen’s clients include large national and international companies as well as medium-sized companies in the media and consumer goods industry and start-ups.

Since his admission to the bar in 2013, Dr. Eckhard Ratjen has been working for BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT at the Bremen office. As a further partner, he will complement the team there with the legal partners Malte Nentwig and Dr. Rudolf Böckenholt as well as the patent attorney partners Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar, Dr. Volker Scholz, Dr. Martin Erbacher and Dr. Uwe Manasse.

Dr. Eckhard Ratjen studied law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Kiel University), concentrating on the fields of intellectual property and copyright law. After completing his doctoral thesis on a copyright law topic and his legal traineeship with stations in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main, among other places, he studied international trade mark and copyright law at King’s College in London from 2012 to 2013. There, he obtained a Master of Laws degree with a specialisation in intellectual property law.

Munich, 26.01.2021 – At the beginning of the year, mixed law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT is adding two new patent attorneys, Dr. Matthias Hofmann and Florian Malescha, to the  partnership of the firm. Dr. Matthias Hofmann will strengthen the firm in the areas of artificial intelligence as well as telecommunications and Florian Malescha in the area of classical mechanical engineering.

Dr. Matthias Hofmann advises and represents companies, research institutes and start-ups in examination, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European and German patent offices. He is primarily involved in computer-implemented inventions with artificial intelligence, imaging, video and image processing, computer architecture, telecommunications and bioinformatics among his major areas of technical expertise. As a partner at the Munich office, Dr. Hofmann will strengthen the firm in the areas of artificial intelligence and telecommunications and also further expand the China business.

After studying physics and computer science, Dr. Matthias Hofmann has been working in intellectual property law since 2010. He has been with BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT since 2015. Through his PhD in machine learning, he is bringing along a special understanding of complicated algorithmic inventions.

Florian Malescha’s activities include client counselling and support as well as the establishment and maintenance of competitive patent portfolios, the defence and enforcement of intellectual property rights in patent litigation, nullity and opposition proceedings. He focuses particularly on medium-sized companies and start-ups.
His main area is predominantly classical mechanical engineering and related technical fields. In close cooperation with departmental manager Nils T. F. Schmid, Florian Malescha will continue to push forward the area of mechanical engineering as a new partner at the Munich office.

After studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich, Florian Malescha started his career as a patent attorney at BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT in 2014. Admission to the German and European bar followed in 2017 and 2018. Just before the turn of the year, he received the “Patents Lawyer of the Year” award from the “Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards 2020”.

Berlin/Munich, 13.12.2019 – Mixed law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT is taking on two new partners as we head into the new year: Sebastian Engels and Silke Freund. Both lawyers specialise in the fields of copyright, media law and trademark law, and as partners they will strengthen the patent and legal teams at the firm’s Berlin and Munich offices.

Dr Sebastian Engels advises clients on all strategic matters pertaining to trademark, copyright and competition law. He focuses in particular on offering comprehensive legal advice and representation to e-commerce and IT providers, and additionally specialises in the area of domain law. He also assists in pursuing and defending cases involving violations of intellectual property and competition law.

Based at the Berlin offices of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, Engels will join Dr Andreas Dustmann and Dr Martin Schaefer as a new partner on the legal team, and Dr Ute Kilger and Dr Thomas Bittner on the patent attorney team. Sebastian Engels has been working at the Berlin offices of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT since passing the bar in 2011.

Silke Freund also has extensive experience in the fields of trademark law, copyright, general personal rights and freedom of expression. In her work, she focuses mainly on the enforcement and defence of trademarks. Ms Freund also assists her clients with global trademark portfolio management and advises them on the legality of marketing and advertising campaigns. Other focal points include defence of copyright, intellectual property rights and rights of use. The Attorney at Law will be appointed as a new partner at the Munich offices of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT. Silke Freund has worked with a number of prominent partner firms and major international law firms since 2002, focusing on media, copyright and trademark law. She moved to BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT in 2013.
