Ute Kilger studied chemistry at the University of Merseburg and did her PhD at the Free University of Berlin in the Department of Biochemistry. In her doctoral research, she was investigating the structure of proteins by FTIR-spectroscopy. For more than ten years, she was active in the patent departments of large pharmaceutical companies. She did her patent attorney training in the patent section of Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, and subsequently worked as a patent expert for Roche Diagnostics GmbH. Ute Kilger gained expertise in US patent law when she spent several months abroad in an American patent law firm. In 2002, she joined the patent department of Schering AG, where she became the head of the department in 2004, being responsible for the global patenting in the area of molecular imaging. She is licensed as a German and European patent attorney.
Ute Kilger is a lecturer for the MBA BioMed course “Intellectual Property” at the University of Potsdam, and for the SPARK educational program of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Moreover, she is giving courses at the HTW Berlin.
Best Lawyers has been listed her for more than 10 years as one of the most important patent attorneys in the field of biotechnology in Germany. Legal 500 Germany highlights her accomplishments related to license agreements.
Since August 2009, she has been working as a partner of BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT.
Ute Kilger is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP), and the Licensing Executive Society (LES). Additionally, she is the co-chair of the Global Series Committee of the Federal Circuit Bar Association (FCBA) and member of the Advisory Board of sphingotec GmbH. She was elected by her professional colleagues in January 2020 to the Board of Directors of the German Patent Attorney Association.
