As in the previous years, Dr. Michael Rüberg will be hosting the Global Fellows Series of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, Washington D.C., (FCBA) during its Munich Session, from 4-8 March 2019.
The Global Fellows Series is a program dedicated to the exchange of the next generation of leading patent litigators worldwide. The selected group of high-profile in-house and outside counsel will participate in a week-long program at the Haus der Bayerischen Wirtschaft, Munich, where they will meet a variety of representatives from the Germany industry and law firms, as well as high ranking patent judges.
One highlight of this year’s program will be a patent infringement mock trial conducted by Federal Supreme Court judge, Dr. Klaus Grabinski. From the patent attorneys’ side, the group will be hosted by Thomas L. Lederer, Boehmert & Boehmert.

Patent lawyer and honorary president of UNION IP Nils T.F. Schmid will host the half-day round table event on 22 February 2019. The event will focus on “Smart IP – Applying intelligence to patenting, licensing and enforcing IP on new technology”.
The English-language workshop will take place in the German Patent and Trademark Office (Zweibrückenstrasse 12,80331 Munich). Confirmed speakers include: Prof Peter Georg Picht (University of Zürich), Dr Dominik Bauer (Audi AG), Georg Weber (European Patent Office) and many more.

UNION IP of European Practitioners in Intellectual Property is an independent non-profit organisation of experts focused on intellectual property. It was founded in 1961 under the name “UNION of European Patent Attorneys”. It is active throughout Europe and offers IP experts a professional forum.
On Wednesday 13 February 2019, the DAV/Berlin Law Society will shine a light on the impact of Brexit for legal practice in Germany in its event “(Hard) Brexit – what now?”.

In 2018, for the very first time in Germany, a court in Munich blocked access to an illegal website offering unlawful access to copyright-protected films. For this reason, this year’s producer brunch on 11.02.2019 will take place under the heading: “Restricted area, no access: Blocking instead of deletion as response to illegal online providers of film and television contents”.
Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann will introduce the topic. His introduction will be followed by a keynote speech in English on website blocking in other EU countries by Parvez Siddiqui, INCOPRO, London. Dr. Martin Schaefer will then moderate a panel discussion with the guests:
The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. (doors open 9:15 a.m) and will run until 11:45 a.m. A buffet will be provided as usual afterwards.
The producer brunch is a joint event organised by the law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, the Federal State of Brandenburg and media.connect brandenburg.
As is tradition, at the start of the year, this year on 23 Janaury 2019, experts from BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT will speak on the subject “Copyright is everywhere” and an provide an overview of key decisions and legal innovations over the year just gone.

Dr Eckhard Ratjen will give a speech on 2 November 2018 at MOIN Singapore in 1Altitude. The title of his speech will be “Business disruptions for start-ups because of lack of proper strategy”. The journey to Singapore will be made by roughly 30 people – including the Senator for Economy, Work and Port of Bremen, Martin Günthner. Eckhard Ratjen will also make a speech on 20 November 2018 at the German Accelerator Southeast Asia (GASEA) event. The speech will be entitled ‘Increase the value of your start-up with Intellectual property rights’.
The MOIN Start-up Camp in March 2019 in Bremen is a two-day event for entrepreneurs, those interested in starting a company, investors and representatives of established companies. Workshops, speeches and network opportunities – for instance at one or other food truck – will be provided. Together with Dr Martin Erbacher and other BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT lawyers, Dr Eckhard Ratjen will be present at an info-stand – a Legal Clinic – at the event in Bremen.
