With the Empowering Consumers Directive (Directive (EU) 2024/825, or EmpCo Directive for short), the European Union aims to protect consumers from misleading environmental and sustainability claims. The Directive tightens the requirements for so-called green claims and, in particular, amends the rules on unfair commercial practices, which are implemented in Germany by the Unfair Competition Act (UWG).
