Information about the seminar
Introduction
This seminar provides an update on specific aspects of the changing IP landscape in view of recent political developments and court decisions in the area of life science and chemical inventions. It provides strategies how to obtain useful protection in view of such changes.
An example of a changing IP landscape are developments in patenting antibodies after Amgen Inc. v. Sanofi, 598 U.S. 594 (2023). This US Supreme court decision did not only change the jurisprudence in the USA but “infected” examination and enforcement for antibody patents in numerous countries which will likely encourage fast followers.
The EU legislators are currently debating about new regulations for Supplemental Protection Certificates, Data Protection, Compulsory Licenses, many of them favoring generic entry, called the EU Pharma Package.
The scope of generic chemical formulae (Markush-Formulae) is increasingly being challenged on more formal grounds. Appropriate countermeasures in view of recent case law are discussed.
Health claims as well as Nutritional claims according to EU Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006 once obtained add significant value to a food product. Possible routes and obstacles in obtaining patent protection for such healthy or nutritionally enriched food products are highlighted.

Arrival by train
The hotel is located directly at Heidelberg main station and is therefore very easy to reach by public transport.
From the station, take the exit behind platform 10 and use the pedestrian bridge to get to Europaplatz and thus to the hotel.
