Dr Lara Kuntz receives the Basic Research Prize from the German Society for Orthopaedics and Accident Surgery (DGOU)

7. November 2018/in News

The prize was awarded on 26 October 2018 at the German Congress for Orthopaedics and Accident Surgery.

With the award, the DGOU honours research conducted by Lara Kuntz on biomolecular key structures in the Achilles tendon-to-bone connection. She showed that the fibres of the Achilles tendon attaching to the bone fan out in thin fibres which have a different protein structure as well as different geometric arrangement to tendon fibres. These micro-structural changes allow the efficient transmission of pull and pressure tension on to the bone. The results of the study have been published in Nature Materials.

Details on the Basic Research Prize and previous winners can be found here.
