Friedrich Sachs advises and represents clients in the fields of biotechnology and life sciences, with a particular focus on medical applications.
In addition to his extensive experience in areas such as cell therapy, immunology, and gene therapy, he is highly familiar with interdisciplinary technologies. These include microscopy and other optical detection methods, bioinformatics, and high-throughput sequencing.

He advises universities and research institutes, start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and multinational corporations on all aspects of German and European patent law, as well as on the coordination of international patent portfolios. His broad range of services includes initial freedom-to-operate (FTO) and landscape analyses, the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, and representation in inter partes proceedings such as oppositions and appeals. Furthermore, he supports his clients in enforcing their patents or defending against infringement claims. This comprehensive expertise enables him to provide highly competent advice on long-term global IP and portfolio strategies, always tailored to the individual goals of each client.
Friedrich Sachs studied biology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). Supported by a research scholarship from the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), he spent a research period abroad at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) in Singapore, where he focused on the development of aptamers. In his diploma thesis, he analysed viral infections in living cells using real-time super-resolution microscopy.
He earned his doctorate as an A*STAR scholar at the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), researching transcriptional regulation in human pluripotent stem cells.
Friedrich Sachs has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2017. Before joining BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT in 2025, he spent eight years practicing at another renowned international IP law firm in Munich.
