Renate Hellenthal is active in the field of intellectual property law. She focuses on brand law, advising clients before and during the process of trademark applications and representing them at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (GPTO), the Office of the European Union for Intellectual Property (EUIPO), and at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Renate Hellenthal studied law at the University of Münster and the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), focusing on international law and the law of the European communities. She obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree at Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia, USA). The topic of her thesis was the burden of proof in international courts. In the course of her legal clerkship she worked at the German consulate general in Sydney (AUS). She started to practice as a lawyer in 1991, initially in the Berlin offices of a large international law firm. Her main scope at that time was building law both public and private.
Renate Hellenthal joined BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT in 2007.
