Jan Bernd Nordemann is known as one of the leading copyright lawyers in Germany. The JUVE handbook 2015/2016 has again included Jan Bernd Nordemann as one of the leading German copyright lawyers. Best Lawyers International 2016 mentions him in the list of recommended attorneys for the fields of IP, entertainment and media, copyright, and litigation. he represents clients before the courts, produces expert opinions for clients on copyright law issues, and drafts copyright agreements. In addition, he is active in political consulting on copyright and advises associations and parties. He also helps his numerous clients of long standing with the many smaller day-to-day problems of copyright.

Moreover, Jan Bernd Nordemann is well known in antitrust law. In this area he works primarily on the interface with intellectual property law and in particular on the antitrust law compliance of licensing agreements, R&D contracts, distribution agreements, and self-regulation by media associations. In the area of press distribution contracts (involving so-called "press wholesalers"), he is regarded as one of the few German experts with relevant sector experience.

In trademark law, Jan Bernd Nordemann acts on behalf of German and international companies, including companies in the areas of media and IP, as well as in the consumer goods sector. The magazine WirtschaftsWoche (30/2011) ranked him in the 25 "top attorneys in trademark law." He administers German and international trademark portfolios and represents trademark proprietors before German and EU courts and authorities.

A further area of focus for Jan Bernd Nordemann is unfair competition law. In this area he advises on company campaigns and appears in legal proceedings.

For some years now, he has held two successful seminars, "Copyright Law Practice" and "Current Developments in Copyright Law," at the German Lawyers' Academy (Deutsche Anwalt Akademie, DAA).

He increasingly appears in US court proceedings as an expert witness on German law. In this role, he recently provided a detailed opinion as an expert witness regarding various questions of German copyright law for a party being sued in the USA.

Jan Bernd Nordemann studied law in Berlin, Göttingen, and Cambridge. Since 1997, he has worked as an attorney at law for BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT. Humboldt University Berlin appointed him as an honorary professor in 2007. For years he has held lectures there on copyright, trademark, and competition law.

In addition, he has been the legal director at the Erich Pommer Institute for media law, media management, and media research in Potsdam (EPI) since 2013. He is also a supervisory board member of the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, the main shareholder of the EPI.

For years, Jan Bernd Nordemann has been the chairman of the Standing Committee on Copyright at the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). Up until the end of 2016, he was, moreover, a member of the Programme Committee of the AIPPI for 8 years.

He is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) where he is an elected member of the special committee for copyright and publishing law as well as the special committee for cartel (antitrust) law. In the special committee for cartel (antitrust) law he was elected vice-chair.

The German Media Court of Arbitration (Deutsche Medienschiedsgericht, DMS) in Leipzig appointed him as an arbitrator at the time of its founding.
