The German Lawyers Academy will be hosting two complementary seminars in Cologne on 11th and 12th November 2011. On 11th November Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann will conduct a seminar entitled “Introduction to copyright law”. On 12th November Dr. Christian Czychowski and Prof. Dr. Nordemann will lead a study of “Legislation and jurisprudence” and shed light on current developments in copyright law. The two events will each last a day and will be held in Cologne this year.
Copyright law at German national and international level has undergone reform over recent years (“2nd Basket” and implementation of the EU Enforcement Directive). The “3rd Basket” is being discussed at present. Seminar participants will study individual issues that are of practical relevance and look at how recent cases illuminate principles of current copyright law. Both seminars are aimed at lawyers, publishing staff, music and film production companies, radio and television corporations, internet and software firms, advertising and design companies, associations and collection societies. The Association of Industrial Property Experts (VPP) is to hold its annual conference on 20 and 21 October in Mainz this year. BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner and Member of the Presiding Committee of VPP, Dr Klaus-Dieter Langfinger, will host the discussion “New Developments at the European Patent Office” on 21 October. On 19 October, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Dr Klaus Dieter Langfinger will give a speech on “Remuneration of Employees Inventions” at the Bavarian Patent Day 2011, organised by the Bavarian Patent Alliance. In his speech, he will present the legal framework and best practices. The event marks the third Bavarian Patent Day; it shows companies various options for the promotion and legal protection of innovation. The Bavarian Patent Alliance functions as the central event and marketing agency of a total of 28 Bavarian universities and colleges for applied science. Further information

The Association of German Local Newspapers (VDL) will hold the “Zeitung 21” event within the framework of the 37th Congress of the Media-Political Forum on 28 and 29 June 2011 in Berlin. On 28 June, the event with include a discussion round on “Securing the Relevance of Daily Newspapers”. It will be hosted by BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Prof Jan Bernd Nordemann. The Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) will be holding its Annual Conference in London from the 3rd to the 8th of June. This year’s conference title is “Licensing in the 21st Century – better, faster, smarter”. On the 6th of June, at this internationally attended and visited conference, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar will give two presentations at the “Compulsory Licensing” and “LESI worldwide survey on dispute resolution needs in international patent licensing” workshops.
