On September 30, 2013 BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner and expert in copyright law Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann will lead the “Copyright Law” seminar organized by the DIHK (Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry). The seminar is aimed at employees in company legal departments, as well as employees working in the fields of press relations and public relations. The seminar will explain the essentials of copyright law, as well as discussing important practical issues, including those arising from the work of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event will be held at the HK City Campus Hamburg. Registration takes place through DIHK-Bildungs-GmbH in Bonn.

The German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) is holding its annual conference in Erfurt from the 25th to the 28th of September 2013. On September 26, the expert committee on copyright and publishing law will discuss “New paradigms for the internet, intellectual property and personal rights”. BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT will be continuing their successful series of “trademark workshops” in various locations this autumn. The dates for the individual workshops are:

“Munich trademark workshop” – Munich, 25th September 2013 “Berlin trademark workshop” – Berlin, 16th October 2013 “Duesseldorf trademark workshop” – Duesseldorf, 30th October 2013 “Bremen trademark workshop” – Bremen, 13th November 2013

The workshops are designed for trademark owners with some previous knowledge, but also for those with none in this area. Dr Rudolf Böckenholt, Dr Carl-Richard Haarmann, Dr Martin Wirtz and Dr Anke Nordemann-Schiffel will guide participants through various aspects of trademark law. This year the following topics will be dealt with: “Branding from the trademark lawyer’s perspective: why imaginative trademarks are better”, “Current jurisprudence in trademark law (European and German courts)” and “National and international trademark research – strategies and putting them into practice”. In addition there is an “Advertising law update” which explains the rules of advertising. All of the workshops start at 2pm and end at about 5pm.

Prof J. B. Nordemann will host the Forum & Executive Committee Meeting at the AIPPI.

This year’s AIPPI Forum & Executive Committee Meeting will take place in Helsinki between 5 and 11 September 2013. Here, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner and copyright expert Prof Jan Bernd Nordemann will host the “UsedSoft v. Oracle – exhaustion online?” workshop on 7 September 2013. This workshop looks at the requirements for exhaustion and possible consequences for the formulation of software licence agreements. It will also be discussed whether this approach can be applied to other works such as film, music and books. International experts in copyright law will speak on and discuss the subject. Berlin Music Week takes place between 4 and 8 September 2013 in Berlin. The event sees itself as a network platform for actors in the recorded, tech and live sectors of the international music industry. BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Dr Martin Schaefer will host the panel “This New World Ain’t Brave At All – Oligopolies are no Children’s Carnival (from 2:30 p.m.) on 5 September. Here, Dr Silvia Leipelt, Dr Lars Hendrik Riemer, Christopher Schroer and Helen Smith will discuss the question “What can and must be done so that the market for creative goods works, how can balance be achieved?”. The background is the fact that the distribution and dissemination of music is dominated by a few global players.
