This year’s VPP (Association of Intellectual Property Experts) Autumn Conference will be held from 28th to 29th October 2010 in Ulm. In the afternoon on the first day, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT Partner, Dr. Klaus Dieter Langfinger, will give a lecture entitled “Research Exemption and Indirect Patent Infringement”. The ISWA (Institute for Social, Economic and Political Education) is holding a seminar from 24th to 26th October 2010 in Berlin. It will deal with the subject, “Change in the Media World”, and will shed light on the related challenges for associations and chambers. In the course of this seminar, BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT Partner, Prof. Dr. Jan Bernd Nordemann, will discuss and expound “Legal Pitfalls – Copyright Law in the Internet Age” on 26th October. The seminar will examine the extent to which changes in media behaviour will affect public opinion on economic and political issues through the internet.

This year’s autumn conference of the Federal Association of German Patent Lawyers will take place on 7 and 8 October in Hamburg. The conference will also include a seminar entitled “Competition Law, Protection of Know-How, Copyright – Cross Discipline Areas of Patent Law Practice”. BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Prof Jan Bernd Nordemann will discuss “Copyright Law of Applied Art – the Limits of Intellectual Property Protection” on 8 October. The Federal Association of German Patent Lawyers is a voluntary association of patent lawyers. Alongside the German Patent Lawyer’s Association, the Federal Association is a further organisation representing patent lawyers.

From 3rd to 6th October 2010, the 42nd World Intellectual Property Congress of the AIPPI (Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle) will take place in Paris. As part of this event, Workshop VI, entitled “Licensing – Do’s and Don’ts in US and Europe”, will be held on 05.10.2010. It will be moderated by James Pooley (WIPO, Switzerland); the speakers will be Victor Siber (Baker & Hosteller, USA), Kenneth R. Adamo (Jones Day, USA) and BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT Partner, Dr. Klaus Dieter Langfinger. The aims of the workshop are to provide the participants with as many practical tips as possible, and to avoid the worst pitfalls for both licensors and licensees in Europe and the USA, according to the current programme.

The 42nd “World Intellectual Property Congress” of the AIPPI (Association International pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle) will take place between 3 and 6 October 2010 in Paris. One of the issues discussed there will be Q216 which looks at “exceptions from copyright protection and permitted forms of use of copyright protected works in high and digital technology”. BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT partner Prof Jan Bernd Nordemann will assume the role of host for this work package. The AIPPI, founded in 1897, focuses on all forms of intellectual property rights (including patents, brands and copyright); it is the oldest global association for the protection of intellectual property rights and is an internationally respected institution.
